First of all, we, the entire UBA-DST islandlovers group, would like to thank you for visiting our website and specifically this chapter. It was our CM (clubmanager) who started day-dreaming in the spring of 1998 and came up with the idea to activate an island. Activating an island means that you go there with a radio, a power source, a antenne and generally try to make as many « contacts » as possible. Soon after the launch of this magnificent idea, he, the CM, found himself surrounded with a small but eager group of enthousiasts. Among those, I found myself.

So overpowered with the idea, that I took it upon myself to be the motor of it all. This website is only one but very important step to make our intentions known to the world. We are now a group of nine radio-operators all licensed to work the bands from 160 Meters trough 2 Meters. And that is exactly what we will do once we reach the Island of Oya or Ile d'YEU.

The island Ile d'YEU is part of the Vendean Islands (le Vendee is a region in the South west of France). It has an allmost sub-tropical climate, a very beautifull landscape, undamaged nature, and the view changes about a thousand times when you travel from one and of the island to another. The island is 9 Km long (from NW to SE) and 3 Km wide on its broadest.

On the NE coast, about 250 meters land inward there is an old citadelle, this is the spot were all the action will take place. The very hospitable islanders call themselves « Ogien ».
